BIG BEAR LAKE >> More than a year in the making, this mountain resort city’s exclusive microbrewry opens its doors at 5 p.m. Tuesday, serving up a half a dozen different craft beers.

The Big Bear Lake Brewing Co. is the latest venture for Big Bear Lake entrepreneur and contractor David Stone, who owns four lodges, the Wine Room at Wolf Creek Resort (one of his lodges), and The Cave — Big Bear Lake Village’s former movie theater that Stone bought and converted into a live music and comedy venue.

The microbrewry is yet another addition to the Village area, featuring such signature brews as honey blonde ale, brown ale, Hefeweizen-style beer, Indian pale ale, orange wheat, and seasonal ales, all of which are served up by brewmaster Ron VandenBroeke, formerly of the Cucamonga Brewing Co. in Rancho Cucamonga.

Stone previously contracted with VandenBroeke to brew beers for his Wine Room. When the Cucamonga Brewing Co. closed its doors more than a year ago, Stone purchased the business’ fermentation tanks and equipment and hired VandenBroeke as his exclusive brewmaster.

“I like his work ethic. He’s got very strong morals. He’s just a really good, honest guy — really hard worker,” Stone said. “And he makes a heck of a product. He’s very passionate.”

The new brewing company has two full bars and will also serve a selection of wines, including the exclusive Stone Summit wines made by Stone’s own winemaster. It will be open daily for lunch and dinner with a gourmet pub-style menu, and will be open for breakfast on weekends.

In addition, it will also offer complimentary shuttle service to its patrons on weekends.

Big Bear Lake Brewing Co. is at 40827 Stone Road in the Big Bear Lake Village.
