We’re Gettin’ LIT this Weekend!

Time to get Lit!

We are getting Lit this weekend! With the events and activities building up, we are having Lit and Alien Ant Farm this Saturday at The Cave! Check out these amazing bands, amazing restaurants, the local brewery, and other activities throughout the weekend!

Lit | Alien Ant Farm

Sat, Dec 15th | 6:30pm | $38+ | Full Bar | All Ages

A major player throughout the post-grunge boom of the late ’90s, Lit featured the combined talents of frontman A. Jay Popoff, his guitar-playing brother Jeremy, bassist Kevin Baldes, and drummer Allen Shellenberger. The group formed in 1990 in Orange County, California, where it initially performed metal-influenced music under the name Razzle. After changing their name, Lit began embracing a spunky brand of punk-pop that helped attract a local following in California. The group sold out local venues (including Club 369 in Fullerton) and issued two recordings: an EP, Five Smokin’ Tracks from Lit; and the full-length Tripping the Light Fantastic, which arrived during the spring of 1997 and became a college radio hit.

Happy Holidays!

Time to Celebrate the Holidays!

Welcome to the beautiful month of December in Big Bear 🙂 With the time of year comes constant festivities in our town! The ski resorts are open, the bars are ready, events and activities all week long, and Santa is here! If you want some world class entertainment, the place to be is The Cave. They have national acts every weekend in a beautifully crafted concert hall. This weekend is Logan Mize on Friday, and Jonny Lang on Saturday! The town of Big Bear has all types of events going on all week long. Check out our schedule here!

Logan Mize | Keeland Donovan

Fri, Dec 7th | 6:30pm | $15 | Full Bar | All Ages

Logan Mize is an accomplished country singer/songwriter from Clearwater, Kansas, who has deep musical roots in his family tree. His great uncle was Billy Mize, largely known for crafting and evolving the legendary Bakersfield sound, which included musical pioneers Merle Haggard and Buck Owens.  In 2009, his first self-titled album was released and shortly thereafter, in 2010, Logan signed a publishing deal with Big Yellow Dog Music. In 2012, his second album “Nobody in Nashville” was released, which peaked at #49 on the US Country chart. Over the next five years Logan hit the road and toured the US and UK, attracting and winning over new fans at every stop along the way.

Jonny Lang

Sat, Dec 8th| 6:30pm | $58 | Full Bar | All Ages |

Easier to believe when you learn he released his first platinum record at 15—an age when many young people are just beginning to play music. Lie to Me revealed a talent that transcended the crop of blues prodigies floating around in the late Nineties. No flashy re-hasher of classic blues licks, even at that early age Lang was a full-blown artist with a style of his own. Also, setting Lang apart from the wunderkind crowd was a 15-year-old voice that sounded like a weathered soul shouter. Actual life experience was yet to come, and has been subsequently chronicled in a series of five uniformly excellent recordings. “I got married, had kids, and that arc has been recorded on albums along the way,” says Lang. “There is a lot of personal history in there, and also some things that relate to world events.” Grab your tickets HERE!

Get Ready for December in Big Bear!

It’s Almost December!

The resorts are open and the mountain is ready for another beautiful December! Hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving! We had an amazing time with the tree lighting ceremony, Warren Miller’s film premiere and Johnny Cash tribute at The Cave, and the Big bear Turkey Trot! Now that we only have one more week in November, we are celebrating the end of another amazing month this weekend and the beginning  of December! Los Lonely Boys will be performing at The Cave this Friday Nov 30th! Fleetwood Mac and Heart tribute bands will also be performing this Saturday, Dec 1st! It’s shaping up to be a beautiful weekend in Big Bear! Check out the other events below 🙂

Los Lonely Boys

Fri, Nov 30 | 6:30pm | $45 | Full Bar | All Ages   AUSTIN, Texas—“We decided to call this album Revelation because we want to make music that reveals something to people about their lives and their world,” says Jojo Garza. He’s talking about the new release by Los Lonely Boys, the close-knit Texas trio that the bassist/vocalist shares with his brothers Henry (vocals, guitar) and Ringo (drums, vocals). “As musicians and artists, we’re here to connect with people, and to share our view of things.” Revelation — to be released on the band’s own LonelyTone imprint Jan. 21, 2014, in association with the respected Austin-based indie Playing in Traffic — is a landmark release for the siblings. While maintaining the infectiously melodic mix of bluesy rock ’n’ roll and rootsy brown-eyed soul that’s long endeared Los Lonely Boys to its fiercely loyal fan base, Revelation adds an expansive range of new sonic elements, e.g. the conjunto touches of “Blame It On Love,” the reggae groove of “Give A Little More,” the rustic acoustic textures of “It’s Just My Heart Talkin’ and the baroque pop elements of “There’s Always Tomorrow.” Check it out Here!

Fleetwood Mac vs. Heart

Sat, Dec 1st| 6:30pm | $20 | Full Bar | All Ages |

It’s a battle of the classic-rock cover bands when Fleetwood Mac tribute Mirage takes on Heart band Dog ‘n’ Butterfly at The Cave in Big Bear Village. With longtime Stevie Nicks impersonator Michelle Tyler at the helm, Mirage re-creates the look and sound of the ’70s icons with spot-on live versions of memorable hits like “Go Your Own Way,” “Don’t Stop,” “The Chain,” “Dreams,” “Rhiannon,” and more. Ann and Nancy Wilson themselves have given their stamp of approval to the Heart tribute group Dog ‘n’ Butterfly, who perfectly capture the original band’s high-energy concert experience, complete with retro-inspired costumes and renditions of songs like “Barracuda,” “Crazy On You,” “Magic Man,” “These Dreams” and more.   Check it out Here!

Country Weekend and More in Big Bear Lake

Who’s Ready for a Country Weekend??

This coming weekend is a very special one, because we have two country legends playing right here at The Cave! We will be having Phil Vassar on Friday, and Mark Wills on Saturday, with some amazing opening acts for you. Along with an awesome weekend at The Cave, Big Bear will be having a myriad of events going on. We have events happening every day here in this beautiful town, and we would love to experience them with you! Here are some things coming up this weekend.

Concerts

Phil Vassar

Oct 12 | 6:30pm | $40 | Full bar | All Ages

Phil Vassar is one of a handful of musicians to have multiple hits as a songwriter AND as an artist. He has 10 Number 1s, 15 Top 10s, and 26 TOP 40s.  Top songs include Just Another Day in Paradise. Carlene, Six Pack Summer, American Child, For a Little While & My Next Thirty Years (Tim McGraw), Right on the Money (Alan Jackson), I’m All Right & Bye Bye (Jodee Messina) and many more. American Soul is Phil’s ninth album. He also recently launched “Songs from the Cellar” a wine-infused musical conversation airing across the US and Europe.

Mark Wills

Oct 13 | 6:30pm | $30 | Full Bar | All Ages

The Reader’s Digest version of Mark Wills’ story makes it clear he’s an award-winning singer’s singer. His matchless phrasing, passionate and meaningful delivery and right-on-the money vocals make each and every song he performs come alive. Like a picture perfect painting, Wills’ music is a vocal work of art that walks right off the canvas and into the hearts of country music lovers alike.
Bringing the Wills’ dimension to some of the greatest songs ever written, he’s not necessarily become known for being trendy, hip or even on the cutting edge, but rather and simply as a damn good singer!

Autumn is such a beautiful time for Big Bear. With the changing of the leaves, and that nostalgic scent in the air, Big Bear is the place to be to experience the Fall season. Check out the activities we have listed here, and we will see you this weekend as we enjoy the beautiful season of Fall!

Concerts

Cubensis: Grateful Dead tribute

Sept 28 | 6:30pm | $15 | Full Bar | All Ages

Since 1987, Los Angeles-based band Cubensis has carried the torch in celebration of one of America’s most beloved touring bands, the Grateful Dead. Cubensis sets out to re-create the Grateful Dead experience by emulating the spirit of Jerry Garcia, Bob Weir, Phil Lesh, and the rest of the legendary San Francisco jam band. Cubensis plays complete shows covering all eras of the Grateful Dead, and no night is ever the same. Cubensis is far more than just your standard cover band as they bring the magic and sounds to those longing for the live vibe that only the Grateful Dead was able to deliver.

Cubensis performs its critically acclaimed live performance of Grateful Dead show recreations to audiences and venues all over the western United States. Giving homage in a continually evolving artistic outlet, the band recreates the Grateful Dead experience with compelling accuracy. Like the Dead, the band explores and searches out all the possibilities of the music.

Drowning Pool

Sept 29 | 6:30pm | $18 | Full Bar | All Ages

Giant riffs, crowd moving grooves and monstrous vocals are the tools with which DROWNING POOL build triumph out of tragedy, steadily evolve without compromise, and remain true to their supporters with over a decade’s worth of remarkable fortitude and attitude. HELLELUJAH is absolutely the album their diehard fans demanded and the aggressive heavy rock world at large deserved.

The platinum-plus conquerors from The Lone Star State deliver their heaviest batch of hell raising anthems, each burning with fiery adrenaline destined to light the radio ablaze and ignite crowds into impassioned sing-alongs. Only a few seconds into the album’s first single, “By the Blood,” it’s evident that Hellelujah is the most aggressive, ambitious, and truly definitive Drowning Pool album since Sinner, the platinum platter that gave the world Top 20 rock radio hit “Tear Away” and the massively successful “Bodies.”

The Cave has national and local shows every weekend, of every genre you can imagine! They allow all ages, and are equipped with a full selection of drinks. It’s an amazing place to spend the evening, and a great place to take the whole family. This weekend is a Rush tribute and Hermans hermits featuring Peter Noone!

Visions: Rush tribute

Aug 31 | 6:30pm | $15 | Full Bar | All Ages

“A SPIRIT WITH A VISION, IS A DREAM, WITH A MISSION…”

We have a VISION to bring the world renowned RUSH concert to the masses. Since the announcement that Rush has officially retired from the touring scene, their diehard fans the world over, are in need of their fix of live Rush music. While many tributes find it necessary to get the “look” of the band just right with wigs and other attire, Visions believes that the music is #1. The common Rush Head is very skeptical of anyone attempting to reproduce Rush music with any proficiency, not to mention very quick to point out ANY mistakes. With this in mind, and being die hard Rush fans ourselves, the choice to make sure every nuance of a song, from samples to vocal harmonies to analog keyboards, is the priority.

At the age of fifteen, Peter achieved international fame as “Herman”, lead singer of the legendary pop band Herman’s Hermits. His classic hits include: “I’m Into Something Good”, “Mrs. Brown, you’ve Got A Lovely Daughter”, “I’m Henry VIII, I Am”, “Silhouettes”, “Can’t You Hear My Heartbeat”, “Wonderful World”, “Just A Little Bit Better”, “There’s A Kind of Hush”, “A Must To Avoid”, “Listen People”, “No Milk Today” “The End of the World” “Leaning On A Lamp Post”, and “Dandy”. Concerts

Faster Pussycat

Hollywood sleaze rockers Faster Pussycat made their mark in the world with a self-titled debut in 1987 and the 1989 gold album Wake Me When It’s Over, which spawned the hit single and video “House of Pain.”

The band originally formed in 1985, famously taking its name from the Russ Meyer oult film Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill! During their early commercial peak the band line-up was Taime Downe (vocals), Greg Steele (guitar), Brent Musoat (guitar), Kelly Nickels (bass) and Mark Michals (drums).

Prior to the band’s break-up in 1992, Downe had already been working with the ground breaking industrial collective Pigface. After Pussycat, he formed the darkly brilliant Newlydeads, along with Kyle Kyle (Bang Tango). A Newlydeads self-titled LP appeared in 1997. They released a remix project called Re-Bound shortly thereafter and Dead End in 2001. That same year Downe resurrected a rock-driven, more evolved Faster Pussycat with original members Muscat (guitar_ and Steele (guitar) playing alongside Newlydeads Xristian Simon (guitar), Danny Nordahl (bass), and Chad Stewart (drums)

Berlin feat Terri Nunn

This Los Angeles-based synth pop group, founded by bassist John Crawford, singer Terri Nunn, and keyboard player David Diamond, made its first national impression with the provocative single “Sex (I’m A…)” from the gold-selling debut EP Pleasure Victim in 1982. The group was filled out by guitarist Rick Olsen, keyboard player Matt Reid, and drummer Rob Brill. Berlin’s first full-length LP was the gold Love Life in 1984. In 1985, the group was pared down to a trio of Crawford, Nunn, and Brill. Berlin topped the charts in 1986 with the single “Take My Breath Away,” the love theme from the Tom Cruise movie Top Gun.

Nunn left for a solo career in 1987, and Crawford and Brill teamed up in the Big F. In 1999, the band reunited to record some new studio material and also performed a concert, which, along with the new songs, was released as 2000’s Berlin Live: Sacred and Profane. This was followed a year later by a flurry of recording sessions that included co-writing tracks with Billy Corgan, among others. The end result, Voyeur, was their first full-length studio release in over 15 years.

EXENE CERVENKA – JOHN DOE – BILLY ZOOM – DJ BONEBRAKE
THE FACT IS, NO ONE SOUNDS LIKE X AND NO ONE EVER WILL.
It’s not surprising when you consider the group’s unique beginnings, which can only be attributed to fate. On the same day with nearly the exact same wording, two want-ads appear in a local music rag. One was sent in by a guitarist named Billy Zoom, the other by bassist who called himself John Doe.

Zoom, a rockabilly rebel who’d performed with Gene Vincent, had read a negative review of a band called the Ramones. It said they only played three chords and they played ‘em too fast. So naturally, he went to see them. The show was at the Golden West Ballroom in the L.A. suburb of Norwalk in early ’77, and as soon as the Ramones started to perform, Zoom realized that, musically, he’d found exactly what he wanted to do with his life.

Doe, who was originally from the Baltimore area, was already down with the East Coast CBGB’s scene and by the time the two got in the same room together after responding to each other’s ads, it seemed it was meant to be. They performed a few shows with various drummers before a poet with no ambition of being a singer would enter the picture.
